MBB| Preview For Western & Mesa

Alamosa, Colorado– The Adams State University men's basketball team (4-4, 2-0 RMAC) seeks to continue its undefeated Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference start when they host Western State on Friday at 7:30PM and Colorado Mesa on Saturday at 7:30PM.
 
Recently In Adams State Men's Basketball:
The Grizzlies squeaked past a talented New Mexico Highlands team 85-82 last Friday and followed it up with a decisive 92-84 win over CSU-Pueblo the next day. This marks the first time Adams State has been 2-0 in conference since the 2015-16 season. The team is currently home to the RMAC's third and fourth leading scorers in Shane Johnson and Brandon Sly. Sly also leads the conference in assists with 6.1 per game.       
 
About Western State:
The Mountaineers are 3-5 overall and 1-1 in the RMAC. Only one of those wins was over an NCAA Division II opponent as they defeated Westminster 79-69 in overtime last Saturday. Collin Smith will be a key player to watch with 17.9 points per game.  
 
Last Meeting:
Adams State won both meetings last season by a combined 11 points. On February 11th, 2017's 90-83 win, Shane Johnson dropped 29 points on the Mountaineers.
 
About Colorado Mesa:
The Mavericks are a solid 5-3 and 1-1 in the RMAC. Saturday's matchup will be their first true road game but they boast a 2-0 neutral site record. The lone conference win came over Western State 86-85 last Thursday. The duo of Connor Nichols and Emilio Acedo will be one to watch. The two have combined for 264 points on the year. Acedo also has the third best three point percentage in the RMAC.  
 
Last Meeting:
The teams split the series 1-1 last season. The Mavericks won the first meeting 91-82 giving them their first RMAC win of a horrible 8-20 year. February 11th went much better with the Grizzlies picking up the 70-67 win in Alamosa. Brandon Sly had 19 points and eight rebounds on that night.
