GUNNISON, Colo (February 10th, 2017) --- Four Grizzlies were victorious, but the Adams State wrestling team wrapped up their season at Western State tonight in a 29-18 losing fashion.
The night once again started at 141 pounds.
Dylan Udero put Adams up early with a 10-7 decision over Seth Rich. The teams then traded pinfall victories in the next two classes. Ian Steen pined
Devin Vasquez at the 149 level before
Wyatt Robinson returned the favor by pinning Justin Chenoweth at the 5:50 at 157 pounds. Next up, Western would take the lead when Brendan Gonzalez won by fall over
Isaac Lopez in the 165 pound weight class. At 174, Brandon Supernaw won a 3-2 decision over
Koery Windham. Richard Bencomo got the Grizzlies back in it with a 5-3 decision over Konnor Schmidt at 184.
With the score slightly in favor of Western State 15-12, the Mountaineers took the next three matches. Mick Dougharity scored a tech fall over
Khalil Gipson 17-0, Ben Price won a 3-1 decision over
Tuli Laulu, and Ronald Wardleigh over
Darek Huff via fall. Adams State would end the night on a high note at 133 pounds with
Martin Ramirez. Ramirez made quick work of Trenton Piatt with a fall at the 2:16 mark. The Mountaineers won the night 29-18.
