ANGELO, Tex.-The Adams State Univeristy Softball team returns to Alamosa still looking for their first win as they dropped their final two games of the 2017 George McCorkle Challenge on Sunday. The Grizzlies, who are now 0-6 on the season, fell to Emporia State 10-1 before falling to Angelo State 9-1 in six innings. They will look to get their first win of the season this upcoming week when they open up the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference portion of the schedule with a four-game series at Regis University in Denver.
On Sunday, the Grizzlies scored their lone run on the squad's first home run of the season as senior
Gabrielle Griego hit a solo home run to deep center field in the bottom of the second inning in their loss against Emporia. Their only other hit of the game was a double from
April Riggins.
In the game against Angelo State, Adams was able to get five hits, all singles, and that produced a third inning run, off the bat of senior
Marissa Harmon who scored
Tyler Hays.
In the six-game weekend, the Grizzlies only battled .178 with 24 hits, seven that were extra base hits, as they were outscored 49-10.
Senior
Lauren Murphy was the leading pitcher for the Grizzlies as she had 12 innings pitched in which she surrendered 15 hits and 16 walks that led to 19 runs, 15 of which were earned. She did counter that with 10 strikeouts during her three appearances.
Taylor Roberts pitched 10 innings and gave up 17 hits and 13 runs.
