PUEBLO, Colo. (February 3, 2017) – A cold-shooting night resulted in an 83-59 defeat for Adams State University on the road against Colorado State University-Pueblo.
The Grizzlies (10-12, 7-9 RMAC) shot 36.7 percent from the field to mark their second lowest shooting performance this season. Adams State's 59 points on Friday also tied for the second lowest single-game scoring mark during the 2016-17 season.
A pair of
Brandon Sly free throws cut the CSU-Pueblo (15-6, 13-3 RMAC) lead to 28-24 with 3:22 left before halftime. However, the ThunderWolves finished the opening stanza on a 13-3 run to pull into halftime ahead, 41-27.
The late run set the tone for the second half as CSU-Pueblo added to their lead which grew to 27 points in the closing minutes.
Sly and
Bryan Umoru paced Adams State offensively with 15 and 13 points, respectively.
Brandon Pasker added 8 points and 6 rebounds.
Kevin Dorsey led the Grizzly bench with 6 points in 20 minutes of playing time.
CSU-Pueblo's Mark Williams posted a game-high 17 points off the bench as the ThunderWolves shot 52.6 percent from the field.
The Grizzlies held a 17-12 advantage in points off turnovers but the ThunderWolves finished with the edge in bench points (43-15) and points in the paint (44-36).
The Grizzlies return to the hardwood tomorrow night at 7pm at New Mexico Highlands University. The Grizzlies defeated the Cowboys, 85-72, in Alamosa on 12/2/16.
