ALAMOSA, Colo. (February 7, 2017) – With just three regular season home games left, Adams State University returns to Plachy Hall Gym for a pair of RMAC games against Colorado Mesa University (2/10) and Western State Colorado University (2/11). Both games will tip-off at 7:30 p.m.

Last Time Out

At CSU-Pueblo
A cold-shooting night resulted in an 83-59 defeat for Adams State on the road against Colorado State University-Pueblo. The Grizzlies shot 36.7 percent from the field to mark their second lowest shooting performance this season. Adams State's 59 points on Friday also tied for the second lowest single-game scoring mark during the 2016-17 season. Brandon Sly and Bryan Umoru paced Adams State offensively with 15 and 13 points, respectively. Brandon Pasker added 8 points and 6 rebounds. Kevin Dorsey led the Grizzly bench with 6 points in 20 minutes.
 
At New Mexico Highlands
The Grizzlies stormed out of the gate shooting 52.9 percent from the field in the opening stanza but cooled off after halftime shooting 33.3 percent. The opposite was the case for the Cowboys. New Mexico Highlands shot 44.8 percent in the first half but gained traction in the final 20 minutes by shooting 56.6 percent. The game featured 18 lead changes.
 
The duo of Sly and Umoru both went 3-of-4 from three in the first half as Adams State closed the period on a 10-2 run to take a 46-37 lead into halftime. However, it was the Cowboys who closed the second half on a strong note to pull away with the win.

Scouting The Mavericks
Colorado Mesa split their games last week at home against Western State (W, 99-97) and Westminster College (L, 89-82). The Mavericks rank 9th in the RMAC in scoring offense and defense. Elmer Lopez owns a team-best 14.5 points per game as CJ Davis ranks second with 13.7 points per game. Amongst RMAC players, Davis ranks fourth in made three-pointers per game (3.0) and fifth in free throw percentage (87%). Brandon Hoffer ranks second in assist/turnover ratio (2.9). The Mavericks are only 1-8 on the road this season. Colorado Mesa is under the direction of fourth-year Head Coach Andy Shantz.

Scouting The Mountaineers
Western State has lost six of their last seven games including a 0-2 mark last weekend against Colorado Mesa (L, 99-97) and Westminster (L, 84-66). The team carries a solid offense averaging 80.3 points per game but the Mountaineers rank last in RMAC scoring defense at 85.2. Western State is the top RMAC unit from downtown with an average of 10.9 made three's per game. Ben Beauchamp leads the team, and ranks third in the RMAC, with 18.9 points per game. Brady Subart and Will Duggan are the top deep threats. Subart shoots 46 percent from three with Duggan hitting at a 45 percent clip.

Last We Met
Adams State picked up a 75-71 win over the Mountaineers on 12/9/16. It was the program's first conference road win of the season. The following night the Grizzlies squandered a 16-point lead to the Mavericks from Grand Junction. Colorado Mesa outscored Adams State by 21 points in the second half to pull off a 91-82 comeback win.

Looking Ahead
The Grizzlies host Colorado Christian University on Feb. 17th for the program's final regular season home game. A Senior Day pregame ceremony will take place to recognize Jakolbhi Gillette, Kevin Dorsey, and Bryan Umoru.
