ALAMOSA, Colo. (February 7th, 2017) – The Adams State University women's basketball team returns home after having been on the road for two weekends. The Grizzlies host Colorado Mesa this Friday at 5:30pm and Western State this Saturday at 5:30pm.
Recently For Adams State Women's Basketball:
The Grizzlies come into the weekend with a one game winning streak. Adams won their first conference game of the season over New Mexico Highlands last Saturday by a score of 72-70. The previous day, the team was defeated 70-42 by No. 3 CSU-Pueblo.
About Colorado Mesa:
The Mavericks are faring pretty well this season sitting at 16-5 (13-4 RMAC). That effort is good enough to make them the second best team in the RMAC standings. Mesa is currently on a three game winning streak with their last loss coming from a trip to South Dakota State. The home court advantage should play into the Grizzly's favor since the Mavericks have lost three games on the road, and only one at home. Bryanna Adams leads the team in scoring with 18.4 points a game and is the team's leading three point threat, shooting 43.3%.
Last Meeting: The last meeting between these teams occurred this season on December 10
th, 2016 in Grand Junction. The Mavericks took that game with ease, winning 75-45 mostly due in part to Mesa's 11 three pointers.
Cydney McHenry did put up double digits that night, but the Mavericks had four ladies do the same.
About Western State Colorado:
The Mountaineers sit near the bottom of the conference sitting at 13
th in the RMAC standings. Western is 5-16 overall. The team will be led by the trio of Harlie Williams, Brianna Wilber, and Sadie Stroup who average 22.8 points and 8.2 rebounds combined.
Last Meeting: The Grizzlies will be looking for revenge after their 41-39 loss to the Mountaineers on December 9
th, 2016. With only a minute remaining,
DeShea Wilkes scored on a layup to put the Grizzlies in a winning position at 39-38. Several turnovers later, the Mountaineers paced down the court and heaved a 3 point shot that fell with only 2 seconds remaining in the game. The Grizzlies could not throw up a miracle of their own, and fell 41-39.
Looking Ahead: After this weekend the team will have only one home game remaining against Colorado Christian before they hit the road to finish out the season.
