MLAX| Adams State Wins First Ever Meeting With Maryville 10-4

ALAMOSA, Colo. (March 15th, 2017) --- The Adams State men's lacrosse team was in action this afternoon to take on first year program, Maryville University.

Despite the Grizzlies (2-1) being a heavy favorite, the game was close in the early going. In fact, the Saints (0-6) would strike first when Justin Amling scored only two minutes into the game. Collin Cranfield would answer with an unassisted goal early in the first. Tanner Beck and Kale Wilson would extend the lead to 3-1 heading into the second quarter. Maryville would cut into the lead with a goal from Justin Amling in the early seconds of the second. A short time later, Collin Cranfield would add two more goals for Adams State. The first came off an assist from Morgan Osborne with 10:25 remaining in the half, and the second came off an assist from Michael Vaeth with 5:45 remaining until the half. Jacob Campbell would sneak a goal in right before the break to make it a 6-3 score in favor of the Grizzlies.

The second half was almost all Adams State. The Grizzlies outscored the Saints 4-1, including two goals from freshman, Kale Wilson. Zach Steltzer scored with only a few seconds remaining in the game for the Saints, but it was far too late as the Grizzlies kept moment for the 10-4 win.

Head Coach Keith Lindgren had this to say about his team's performance today: "The team has shown a large amount of growth and is moving in the right direction. We are proud of the sportsmanship shown by the program and staff."

Collin Cranfield and Kale Wilson each had four goals on the afternoon for ASU. Connor Johnson made eight saves in his 52:31 of play. Justin Amling led the Saints with two of their four goals. As a team, Adams State out-shot Maryville 35-18. ASU also won the ground ball battle 36-23.

The team will now hit the road and head east for the week. March 19th the Grizzlies will play Lindenwood in Missouri. On March 21st, the team will head south to play the University of Alabama at Huntsville.
