MLAX| Johnson's Last Second Save Secures The Win In Huntsville

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (March 21th, 2017) --- The Adams State men's lacrosse team found themselves in a tight one in northern Alabama this afternoon. Facing a last second shot, Adams State would hold off the attack for the 10-9 win.

Despite the eventual win, the first quarter did not go well for Adams State (3-2, 2-1 RMAC). An assist from Emmitt MacFarlane led to a Kale Wilson goal only three minutes into the game to give ASU a 1-0 lead. From that point, Huntsville (3-6) went on a 6-1 run that lasted into the early minutes of the second quarter. Now down 6-2, the Grizzlies would go on a 3-0 run to cut the lead to 6-5 at halftime.

The Grizzlies would not stay down for long in the second half. After trading goals early in the third, Adams then went on a 4-1 run to put them up 10-8. Kevin Coppinger of UAH hit a goal with 4:08 remaining to make it a one score game. Connor Johnson was then faced with a difficult task if the Grizzlies were to come out victorious. With 12 seconds left a charger shot was blocked, but they maintained possession. With one second left in the game, Huntsville's Luke LeVette took his shot, but Connor Johnson would have none of it with a game winning save.

Coach Keith Lindgren had this to say about the win: "Today's contest was a great battle at the end of our spring break trip. The team was tested throughout the game and the team was able to push through the exhaustion of travel in order to win."

Kale Wilson led the Grizzlies with three goals on six shots. Kevin Coppinger was the Charger's leading scorer with three goals and one assist. Connor Johnson made 18 saves, including the game-winner.

The team now takes a 10-day breather until their next game against Colorado Mesa on March 31st. That game will be at the ASU Lacrosse Field and is scheduled for 4:00PM
