GRAND JUNCTION-The Adams State University Softball team was unable to get upset wins over the No. 14 ranked team in the nation on Saturday as the Colorado Mesa University Softball team took two run-rule games, 8-0 and 10-2.
In the first game the Grizzlies each scored a single run in the bottom of the first and second inning before scoring two in the bottom of the third. They then struck for four in the bottom of the fifth including a walk-off single.
The Grizzlies' only runs of the day came in the top of the second inning of the second game as
Kalin Johnson hit a single before she was thrown out trying for second base. Despite that she earned two RBI on the play with
Jasmine Parker and
April Riggins each coming in to score.
The Mavericks scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to pull out the second win.
The two teams will meet in a doubleheader on Sunday starting at 11 a.m.
