ALAMOSA, Colo. (March 9th, 2017) --- The Adams State men's lacrosse team was bested this afternoon by Rockhurst University in the Grizzlies' 2017 home opener.

Rockhurst (6-2, 2-2 RMAC) got out to a strong start, obtaining four goals from Grant Vanoverbeke, Michael Beckham, Luke Vanoverbek, and Jake Martin. The Hawks would hold the 4-0 lead until the 13:38 mark in the second period. At that point,
Collin Cranfield notched a goal off an assist from
Nik Clinton to cut into the lead, 4-1. The next 17 minutes belonged to the Hawks however. In that span, Andy Tabor and Michael Beckham scored a goal to put Rockhurst ahead 6-1 with 10:05 remaining in the third. Again, Cranfield would answer with a goal with an assist from
Nick Brown to cut the deficit to 6-2. Adams State (1-1, 1-1 RMAC) would give up another three goals before
Emmitt MacFarlane got on the board with
Terry Trudgian providing the assist. MacFarlane would add two more goals moving forward, but the Hawks added five of their own. The final horn sounded with a 14-5 Rockhurst victory.

MacFarlane had three goals on the afternoon with Cranfield providing two.Trudgian added three ground balls and two assists in defeat.
Connor Johnson made 21 saves to establish a new single-game career high. Johnson faced 49 shots to finish with a .600 save percentage. The reigning RMAC Defensive Player of the Week also added three ground balls.
Beckham and Martin scored three goals for the Hawks as Zach Bodeau had a game-high nine ground balls.The ground ball battle was close, but belonged to the Hawks, 31-28.
