MLAX| Dominant First Half Pushes Westminster Past Adams State

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah. (April 21st, 2017) --- The Adams State men's lacrosse team traveled to Westminster College for a rematch of their most thrilling game of the year. On April 2nd the Grizzlies won an 11-10 overtime game with the Griffins. Things looked a lot different this time around as Westminster won 17-6.

The first half is where the Griffins (6-5, 5-3 RMAC) won this contest. A 10-0 run had the home team rolling until Michael Vaeth got Adams State (5-4, 4-4 RMAC) on the board with an assist from Nik Clinton late in the first half. The Griffins would add two more goals to take a 12-1 halftime lead.

The Griffins would strike first in the third period but were quickly matched by Nick Brown and Kale Wilson. Westminster would respond with two goals of their own. Kale Wilson and Emmitt MacFarlane then put together a 3-0 run for the Grizzlies with MacFarlane scoring his 13th and 14th goals of the season. WC would add two more to end the game. Despite a dead-even second half between the teams, the first half was too much to overcome in this one as the Griffins tied up the season series 1-1.

Emmitt MacFarlane and Kale Wilson each had two goals on the afternoon. Coltyn Kelley came through defensively with three caused turnovers and a ground ball. Kage Janes also had a solid outing with five ground balls and a caused turnover. Connor Johnson had 14 saves before Brandon Minshall came in and got three of his own. The Griffins were led by Thomas Sarjeant and Troy Vance who combined for six goals.

Adams State played tough on defense, causing 18 turnovers and scooping up 25 ground balls.

The team will now travel to Grand Junction for their last road game of the season against No. 18 Colorado Mesa.
