CHADRON, Neb.—Saturday saw the Adams State University only scramble to push one run across as the plate as they were swept by the Chadron State College Eagles in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) doubleheader. The Grizzlies were run-ruled, 9-0, in the first game in five innings before they were defeated 3-1 in the second.
The Eagles, who are now 25-22 overall and 21-14 in the RMAC, jumped out to a 5-0 lead early as they had two first-inning home runs including a 3-run jack from Aspen Eubanks and one from Morgan Wilhelm.
They then scored a single run in the bottom of the third before scoring two more in the bottom of the fourth for the run-rule win. The hour, 18-minute game saw
Whitney Fields fall to 4-11 on the season in the circle as she surrendered nine runs, eight earned, on 12 hits and two walks. She had two strikeouts in the contest. Offensively, ASU only garnered four hits with
Kalin Johnson going 2-for-2 at the plate and a stolen base as they surrendered two errors, defensively.
In the second game, the Eagles scored a single run on a single in second and a single run on a sacrifice fly in the third before
Shelby Haskins singled up the middle in the top of the fourth to score pinch runner
Jasmine Parker. The final run was a single in the bottom of the fourth for the Eagles.
Adams State, now 16-28 overall and 15-19 in conference play, played a clean defensive game with five hits, all by different players.
Lauren Murphy, who pitched a complete game and gave up the three runs on seven hits and four walks, had three strikeouts and fell to 11-10 on the season.
Adams State and Chadron State will close out their four-game series on Sunday.
