ALAMOSA, Colorado– The Adams State University volleyball team will open up conference play this weekend in Plachy Hall against the two Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference South Dakota teams. South Dakota Mines will be in town Friday at 7:00 PM and Black Hills State will follow on Saturday at 6:00 PM.  
 
Recently In Adams State Volleyball:
The Grizzlies last competed in the Southwest Baptist Tournament in Bolivar, Missouri. During the weekend the team went 2-2 with losses against Emporia State and Drury University, and victories over Southwest Baptist and Oklahoma Baptist. The Grizzlies now enter conference play at 4-5 on the year.  
 
About South Dakota Mines:
The Hardrockers enter the game 1-7 on the season. Their lone victory came last Saturday over Minot State. The team will be led offensively by redshirt senior Mikkella Reese with 78 kills on the year. Defensively, they will rely on Emily Newton and her 16 blocks.
 
Last Meeting:
The last contest between the two teams was on September 17^th of last year in Rapid City. Adams State won the game easily in three sets. The second and third sets were both 25-12 blowouts in favor of ASU. Mallory Grimsrud and Hannah Atkinson combined for 23 kills in the victory.   
 
About Black Hills State:
The Yellowjackets currently sit at 3-5. The most recent win was a 3-0 sweep over the Southern Arkansas Muleriders last Saturday. Black Hills will certainly share the ball as its top four scorers have 69, 69 68, and 61 kills. Laurel Lech highlights the defense with 103 digs and 24 blocks.
 
Last Meeting:
These teams last met on September 16^th, 2016 in Spearfish, South Dakota where Adams took a hard earned 3-1 win. Each set was within a six point difference with ASU winning the second, third, and fourth. Hannah Atkinson led all Grizzlies with 16 kills.
