CANYON, TX— The Adams State University women's soccer team opened its season with a 1-0 loss to West Texas A&M Friday afternoon. This is just the second time since 2014 Adams State has lost its' season opener.

With less than 20 minutes remaining, overtime seemed eminent until a goal in the 75
th minute by Samantha Silvestre, assisted by Marlene Van Mourik provided the difference for West Texas. This was the only goal surrendered by Adams throughout the game.

It was a rough start for Adams, who didn't attempt one shot in the first half and only five in the entire game. Adams State's
Teagan Moore kept the game close throughout the first half, recording three saves and finishing with six overall.

The second half brought out a level of physicality with Adams receiving seven fouls to just one from West Texas. The game's only yellow card was asserted to Adams Sates'
Lourdes Padilla during the 79
th minute.
