MSOC | Grizzlies Fall Short to Top Ranked Mavericks

ALAMOSA – Adams State University lost to No.-10-ranked Colorado Mesa earlier today, 1-0, on the ASU Soccer Field. It was the Grizzlies second conference loss of the season.

The Grizzlies allowed the only goal of the game when Colorado Mesa's, Malik Mennana, who scored with a header in the 29th minute in the first half.

The Mavericks were on the attack for the majority of the game with sixteen total shots and six on goal. Adams State could only muster three total shots with two on goal. Adams State's goalkeeper, Austin Baumeister, had a season high five saves on the day.

"I think it was a good learning opportunity for us today," said head coach Brett Bentley. "Mesa really showed why they're the #10 team in the country in the first half. The game opened up more for us in the second as we started to believe that we were good enough to compete. We're still very young, so it's a great learning lesson for us as we move forward."

Both teams combined for twenty fouls and three yellow cards during the game. The two teams collided in a heated moment when an Adams State player ran into the Colorado Mesa's goalkeeper. No one was ejected for the altercation.

The Grizzlies will continue conference play this Sunday against Westminster University (Utah). The Grizzlies will look to break out of a two-game losing skid. The game will begin at noon at the ASU Soccer Field.
