Bolivar, Missouri- Day one of the Southwest Baptist Tournament did not go as well as the Adams State University volleyball team (2-5) had planned. The morning matchup with Emporia State (2-3) went four sets but would go the way of the Hornets 3-1. The afternoon contest would be a similar result as the Drury Panthers got the best of Adams 3-1.

In the first game, Emporia took the first set 25-17. ASU would bounce back in the second. Tied at 23,
Macie Magallon gave the Grizzlies a critical 24-23 lead. The Hornets would come back with a kill of their own to force extra points.
Mallory Grimsrud would close the set with a kill and an ace to give the Grizzlies their only win of the morning 26-24. Emporia would then take the third and fourth sets 25-21 and 25-22 respectively to win the game.

In the evening game, the Grizzlies jumped out to an early lead over Drury (5-1) after winning the first set 25-21. Tied at 20, Adams State caught fire with a 5-0 run to close out the set. The Panthers would end things in the next three sets, winning 25-19, 25-14, and 25-17.

On the day,
Mallory Grimsrud and
Hannah Goddard each had 28 kills with Goddard adding another 29 digs. Grimsrud's 28 kills now puts her in fourth place on the ASU career kills list, surpassing Andrea Tuck's (2007-08) 986.
