CHADRON, Neb. – The No. 21 ranked Adams State University wrestling team (2-7) have known nothing but success after first being ranked for the first time this season last Thursday. Tonight was not even close as the Grizzlies burst onto Chadron State College's campus for their second straight win by a final score of 33-11.
Things would start in the 157 pound weight class where Jacob Otuafi took out
Joshua Salas in a 15-0 tech fall win. This would be the first of only two wins for the Eagles on the night.
Koery Windham pinned John Porter at the 7:43 mark at 165 pounds followed by a sudden victory for
Isaac Lopez over Heber Shepherd at 174 pounds. In the next two weight classes (184 & 197) the Bencomo brothers both succeeded with Richard picking up a 4-2 decision over Devin Stork and Joe receiving a forfeit victory.
Tuli Laulu would win the heavyweight bout via tie-breaker over Rulon Taylor. At this point, the score was already 21-5 but
Darek Huff insisted on growing that lead. The No. 7 ranked 125 pounder in the country pinned Marcus Hutcherson in 2:06 to gain his fourth victory by fall this year.
Luis Gurule kept it going over Chance Karst via 8-7 decision in the 133 pound class.
Marquel Parks would be pinned next, but would be avenged by 149 pound stud
Natrelle Demison's 6-3 decision Jacob DeSersa in the closing matchup.
Tomorrow's contest against Colorado School of Mines will begin a bit earlier at 2:00PM. The Orediggers defeated New Mexico Highlands yesterday to improve to 8-2 on the season.
