GOLDEN, Colo. – The No. 21 ranked Adams State University wrestling team (2-8) dropped a two point contest to the Colorado School of Mines (9-2) that would have given the Orediggers their third loss of the season and Adams its third straight win. Trailing 20-9 late, the Grizzlies made a push but fell short 18-20.
In rare fashion,
Darek Huff was pinned at the 3:41 mark by Zachary Gracia. This was only Huff's fifth loss of the season. Breakout star
Luis Gurule got Adams on the board with a sudden victory over Noah Au Yeung. Gurule is quietly 9-1 on the year after not competing in the earlier part of the season.
Dylan Udero would tie the score with a 7-3 decision over Taylor Gambill in thee 141 pound weight class. Fifth ranked
Natrelle Demison picked up his team leading 16
th win over Noah Ottum 9-2 to give the Grizzlies a 9-6 lead.
The next three contests took a drastic turn for the Orediggers as they scored 14 points straight. Ethan Ruby put a 17-0 tech fall on
Joshua Salas, Keenan Willits won a 13-6 decision over
Koery Windham, and TJ Shelton pinned
Isaac Lopez in 3:34.
Adams State attempted a glorious comeback winning the final three weight classes, but only got three points from each of them. The nine points would leave them two shy of a tie duel. On a more positive note, the Bencomo brothers both won for the second day in a row. Nevada defeated Connor Ventura in an 8-6 decision followed by Dakota's 5-3 decision over Anthony Spallino.
Tuli Laulu also continues to win the close ones with a sudden victory over Weston Hunt.
Next up will be the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference championships in Colorado Springs next weekend.
