SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - The Adams State Women's Soccer team lost on Sunday to Westminster College, 5-1. The loss drops the Grizzlies to 2-11 overall and 1-8 in conference play.
The Griffins got on the scoreboard first after an Allie Millerberg header in the 17th minute. After an early 1-0 lead, the Griffins stayed on the offensive attack with a goal by Skye Jeffries in the 25th minute. The Griffins continued to increase the gap with another goal from Millerberg and one from Aimee Kurfurst in a quick 30-second span.
Despite the four goal deficit, the Grizzlies kept fighting. Breana Flores scored in the 54th minute after a deflection off the crossbar to shorten the lead to three. Brynnae Braun would add the Griffins fifth goal of the day with a shot from way out. The Griffins held on to their lead to take the win.
The Grizzlies had 13 shots for the game with five being on goal, while the Griffins dominated offensively with 31 shots and 12 on goal. Corri Zaiger had 7 saves on the day pushing her conference lead to 96 for the season. Four different Grizzlies had two shots apiece. Flores' goal was her fifth of the season tying her with Diana Cerillo for the most on the team.
The Grizzlies will look to end their losing skid with two games this weekend against Colorado Mesa University and Western State University.
