Cowgirls Prevail in Double Overtime

ALAMOSA, Colo. – The Adams State women's soccer team dropped to 2-14 overall and 1-11 in the conference after Thursday's double overtime defeat to New Mexico University.

After 90 minutes of regulation wasn't enough, the Grizzlies and Cowgirls remained scoreless during the first period of overtime. The second overtime saw the Cowgirls with a quick free kick to open the period after a foul. The Cowgirls leading goal scorer, Alondra G-Ceballos, sent a line drive kick to the upper left corner of the net to win the game for the Cowgirls.

During regulation, the Grizzlies outshot the Cowgirls 21-17. Six Grizzlies had at least two shots. Chloe Marston led the Grizzlies with six shots and three on goal. Corri Zaiger finished with eight saves on nine attempts.

During the first overtime period, Diana Cerillo banged a shot off the crossbar where Chloe Marston shot the deflection that went a little high. Minutes later, Karina Vega saved a shot by Marston to keep the game tied. G-Ceballos took the free kick in the 101st minute and scored from 10 yards out to end the game. Despite only one goal being scored during the game, both teams shot the ball with intention. The two teams combined for 46 shots total and 19 on goal.
