ALAMOSA, Colo. - The Adams State University women's soccer team struggled against MSU Denver on Friday afternoon, falling 4-1. The Grizzlies drop to 2-8 overall and 1-5 in conference play.
The Roadrunners dominated the game both offensively and defensively. Both teams were scoreless well into the first half until Brooklyn Mooney scored for the Roadrunners to break the scoreless tie. The remainder of the first half went scoreless, but the Roadrunners were outshooting the Grizzlies 16-2.
The second half began with two quick goals from the Roadrunners. Reigna Banks added to her conference lead in goals with her 10th of the year in the 56th minute. Shortly after, Makenna Brossard pushed the lead to three in the 61st minute. The Grizzlies showed some life after Breana Flores scored her third goal of the year on an assist by Chloe Marston. The Roadrunners answered with their final goal of the day by Jordan Lewis to bring the final score to 4-1.
The Grizzlies were outshot 32-6 with 18 shots on goal for the Roadrunners and 3 on goal for the Grizzlies. Corri Zaiger tallied 14 saves on the day for the Grizzlies.
The Grizzlies will be put to the test as they face UCCS on Sunday, October 7. The Mountain Lions currently are undefeated in conference play and rank No. 24 in Division II. The game will begin at 1 p.m. at the ASU Soccer Field.
