DURANGO, Colo. - The Adams State Volleyball team closed out their season against Fort Lewis Thursday night. The Grizzlies defeated the Skyhawks in four sets, 3-1 to take the road win.

Adams State got the night started with a set one victory over Fort Lewis. Set one was tightly contested in the beginning with the Grizzlies leading, 9-8. Adams State rallied from this point on, defeating Fort Lewis, 25-17.

The Grizzlies got off to a quick 5-0 lead in the beginning of the second set. The Grizzlies continued to push the pace and increase their lead as the set continued. The Skyhawks would go on a small 3-0 run before the Grizzlies closed them out, 25-19.

Adams State took their foot off the pedal to start set three. The Grizzlies trailed the Skyhawks, 10-6 in the opening moments of the set. Adams State would continue to fall further from Fort Lewis in the set. The Grizzlies suffered their first set loss to the Skyhawks, 25-15.

Adams State closed out Fort Lewis in set four ensuring that there wouldn't be a deciding fifth set. The Grizzlies took the narrow lead early, 10-7. The Skyhawks would remain in the set till the closing moments. The score was tied at 23 when the Grizzlies scored the final two points to close out the Skyhawks, 25-23 for the match win.

Rachael Ringler led the team with 52 assists in the match. The Grizzlies had four girls get double-digit kills, Grecia Diaz Martinez, Shannon Mulkey, Julianna Zamora, and Hannah Goddard.

Adams State finished the season with a 12-14 record. The Grizzlies needed to sweep the Skyhawks, 3-0 to ensure a berth in the RMAC Tournament. The Grizzlies finished No. 9 in the RMAC at 9-9, just missing out on the tournament.
