ALAMOSA, Colo. - The Adams State Women's Basketball team travels to Missouri this weekend for a couple of non conference games. The Grizzlies tip-off against Rockhurst Friday, Nov. 9 at 4:30 p.m. The Grizzlies will close out their roadtrip at William Jewell College Sunday, Nov. 11 at 12 p.m.
The Grizzlies finished with a 5-19 record last season, 3-19 in the RMAC. The team fell short of making the RMAC Tournament last season.
The team will be returning its two leading scorers from a season ago, Stephanie Ruiz and Brooke Neal. Ruiz led the team in points and steals, averaging 12.1 points and racking up 39 steals. Neal averaged 11.2 points while leading the team in assists with 51.
The Grizzlies competed against Division I Utah Valley University last weekend in an exhibition game. The Grizzlies fell to the Wolverines, 80-48. Stephanie Ruiz led the team with 19 points on 7-11 shooting. Ruiz sunk five threes on just eight shots from beyond the arc. Marshell Hollins finished with a team-high six assists and four boards for the Grizzlies.
Scouting Rockhurst
The Hawks have two exhibition games underneath their belt. Unfortunately for the Hawks, they were defeated both times. Southeast Missouri State University defeated the Hawks 78-51 in their first exhibition game of the season. Oral Roberts University mounted past the Hawks 95-31.
The Hawks finished with a 10-16 record last season. The Hawks started off good but dropped their last four games to finish the season.
The Hawks are returning their leading scorer from a season ago, Madeline Ronshausen. She averaged a team-high 15.6 for the Hawks last season.
Scouting William Jewell College
The Cardinals begin their season at home against Adams State this weekend. The Cardinals finished with a 12-14 record last season. The team made the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship Tournament last season. The Cardinals were defeated by University of Southern Indiana in the first round of the tournament, 64-54.
The Cardinals are returning their leading scorer from last season, Kayla Harrell. Harrell averaged a team-high 12.3 points for the Cardinals last season. The Cardinals are made up of a young core group of women this season.
