INDIANAPOLIS - The Adams State Wrestling team wrapped up day one of the 40th annual Midwest Classic on Saturday. The Grizzlies had a three grapplers advance to day Sunday's finale, with one athlete still in contention on the champions side of the bracket.
Darek Huff,
Dylan Udero, and
Ryan Rochford all punched their tickets to day two. Huff is the lone wrestler still on the champions side of the bracket at 133 pounds. Udero (141 pounds) and Rochford (157 pounds) are on the consolation side of their respective brackets.
Huff had the best day of the group going 3-0 to advance to the semifinals in the 133-pound weight class. All three of his wins came by way of decision and his first match was the closest of the three. Huff battled to a 2-1 victory in his opening match as he held off Brayden Curry of Augustana (SD). After starting with a close win, Huff then went on to win his next two bouts handling. Win No. 2 was an 8-2 decision over Emery Cline of Emmanuel. Huff finished up his undefeated day with a 9-2 decision against Brandon Kile against Chadron State.
Udero posted a 3-1 record at 141 pounds on day one. he got things started with an 11-8 decision over Alex Rhine of Bellarmine. His lone loss of the day was in the second match as he fell by just one point in a 3-2 decision against Jebben Keyes of Augustana. Looking to stay in contention for day two, Udero bounced back with a pair of wins to advance. In his third match, Udero pinned Jared Ford of Urbana in 4:26. His final win of the day was a 3-2 decision over Jake Polka of Wisconsin-Parkside.
Like Udero, Rochford also went 3-1 with his lone loss coming in match No. 2. Two of Rochford's win came by way of pin fall, with the first coming in his opening match. He pinned Quintin Lopez of Davenport (Mich.) in 1:21 to move to round two. Rochford was then trippe dup as he dropped a 8-3 decision against Austin Palmer of Newberry. In the consolation bracket, he advanced with a 9-7 decision against Braydon Ortloff of Minnesota State-Moorhead. His third win of the day was a pin over Kevin Almond of Emmanuel in 67 seconds.

Isaac Lopez, and
William Tyler all posted 2-2 records on the day but came up just short of making it to day two of the Midwest Classic. De La Cerda's two wins at 125 pounds were a overtime sudden victory and a disqualification. Windham picked up a pair of decisions at 165 pounds. Lopez earned a win via decision and pin fall at 174 pounds. Tyler's two wins at 184 pounds were a major decision and a pin.
