ALAMOSA – The No. 21 ranked Adams State University wrestling team (2-10) were again without two of its stars in the 125 and 133 pound weight classes due to nagging injuries. Regardless, Colorado Mesa (5-9-1) was on fire this afternoon handing the Grizzlies a 19-33 loss.
The day started with two forfeits to give the Mavericks a 12-0 lead. Though the Grizzlies had a tough meeting, the four wrestlers who did win, did so in a dominating manner. At 141 pounds
Dylan Udero earned a 13-3 major decision over Kyle Kintz. Fifth ranked
Natrelle Demison followed with a fall on Tim Romero only 1:03 into the match at 149 pounds. The Grizzlies would find three more team points when
Dakota Bencomo got a 6-2 decision over Donald Negus at 184 pounds.
Tuli Laulu ended the afternoon with a thunderous slam to get a fall on Clayton Voytilla at 3:40 at heavyweight.
The Mavericks would win all of the other weight classes, including three by late third period falls.
The NCAA Western Regional Tournament will be held on February 23
rd in Las Vegas, New Mexico.
