ALAMOSA – In a rare one game series with Augustana University, Adams State University baseball team fell in a ninth inning meltdown Saturday at home. The game schedule for Sunday was canceled due to snow on the field, but luckily the Grizzlies will head to Canyon, Texas this upcoming weekend in search of sunshine and their first win.
 
The game jumped out to a quick start, as the Grizzlies scored five unanswered runs in the first four innings. The Vikings would score three in the fifth to bring the game to a three score affair. Runs would be added in the sixth, seventh and eighth inning for the Vikings, notching the game at six apiece before the start of the ninth inning.
 
The ninth inning was a rough one, as the Grizzlies allowed seven runs, five of which were unearned runs. The Grizzlies faced 11 at bats in the inning, while allowing all seven runs to be scored with two outs already on the board.
 
Despite the ninth inning woes, the Grizzlies looked good as a team, scoring in five of the nine innings. Billy Ryan led the team offensively, hitting .600 on the day with a homerun and two runs scored. Third basemen Orlando Romero was a perfect 3-for-3 from the plate, while Nico Nintze led the team with a pair of RBIs.
 
On the mound for Adams State, Andrew Shaw pitched four inning, allowing just one run and three hits.
 
For the Vikings, their shortstop Baier had a game with three hits in five at bats for five RBIs. He hit a pair of doubles and a homerun.
