PUEBLO, Colo. – The Adams State University baseball team (0-1) got off to a rough start this weekend losing the opening game of the 2018 season in neutral site action to West Texas A&M 4-7. The team was scheduled for a double header on Sunday with WTAM and CSU-Pueblo but had the contests cancelled due to weather.
The lone contest came on Saturday morning in the grace of a 63 degree weather in Pueblo. The Buffs would jump out to a quick 3-0 lead in just two innings.
Nico Nintze would get the Grizzlies on the board in the third with a double that allowed
Tyler Erzen to score. The Buffs would answer in the fourth to push the lead back to three. Neither team would score again until
Tyson Zanski homered into right field in the sixth. The Grizzlies would score two more times thanks to Nintze and Zanski but allowed three by West Texas A&M and ultimately fell by three.
Tyson Zanski and
Dustin Kachel both had great days at the plate, getting three hits from four at-bats. The two also combined for three runs on the morning.
Christian Loya had a solid day for the Buffs with three home-runs in five at-bats.
Next up will be a rematch with West Texas A&M on their own turf in a three game beginning on February 16
th at noon.
