ALAMOSA - The Adams State University baseball team (0-17, 0-4 RMAC) are still searching for a win in the 2018 season. The team was swept in its Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference series opener against Regis University (13-7, 5-3 RMAC) this weekend.
Â
Game one was closely contested with the Rangers scoring in the top of the first and the third to take the 2-0 lead. Grant Templen was walked in from third as
Nico Nintze watched ball four shoot past him just outside. Later in the inning, Tyler Zanski grounded into a double-play but allowed
Dakota Solis to tie the game. Regis would then go on a 6-1 run to win the game 8-3.
Â
Saturday's double-header was thrilling to say the least. In game one, neither team could score for five innings of a seven inning contest nor did either give up a single hit. In the sixth, Marcus Salvato singled up the middle allowing Coby Zimmerman to score the first run. A Connor Rochon double moments later ran in Marcus Salvato to give the Rangers the eventual 2-0 win. Game two seemed like it would be a blowout until very late. Trading two runs each through two, Regis then increased that lead to 8-2 entering the bottom of the final inning.
Dakota Solis hit a double to run in one score, then Erik
Hildebrandt got in off a
Tyson Zanski ground out. Eventually, Solis would reach home coming off a single. Suddenly the bases were loaded with two outs and a comeback was possible until the Grizzlies grounded out to short stop to end the game 8-5 in favor of Regis.
Â
The final game got out of control in a hurry. Through five and a half innings the Rangers jumped out to a 14-0 lead. Adams State would add three runs in the bottom of the sixth and another in the seventh. This would not soften the impact however as Regis went on to win 19-4.
Â
In the series,
Dakota Solis had one RBI, four hits and three runs scored.
Patrick Huffaker was also impressive with one RBI, five hits, and one run. In game one of Saturday,
David Maldonado only allowed five hits against 26 batters faced in six innings from the mound.
Â
The Grizzlies will travel to Colorado Springs on Tuesday to face Air Force at 3:00PM. Â Â Â Â Â
