ALAMOSAÂ - A strong first quarter helped Adams State University pick up a key win against Maryville University Thursday afternoon in Alamosa by a score of 8-6. The Grizzies scored four unanswered goals to take the early lead and not look back. Adams will regroup and look towards a game against Johnson and Wales Sunday at noon before heading out on a road trip to Missouri.
The scoring kicked off by a kick man-up goal by
Emmitt MacFarlane in the first four minutes of the game, assisted by one of
Jacob Austin's pair of assists today. It wasn't much later when
Collin Cranfield made it a two score game in the eighth minute of competition. The next two goals would come way of team goal leader
Kale Wilson in the sixth minute and final minute of the quarter. The first was assisted by
Terry Trudgian.Â
The Grizzlies would pick up goals from
Morgan Osborne and
Danny Krieble in the third to extend the lead back out to four goals. The final nail in the coffin came from Austin in the ninth minute of the fourth quarter.
Adams came out of both breaks firing, putting up 10 shots in the first quarter and 15 in the third. The team was also efficient all game long, converting on all but one clear in the game.
Wilson, MacFarlane and Osbourne were the aggressors of the day, putting up seven and six shots apiece.
Sawyer Robison and
Garrett Chitwood added in five combined caused turnovers to keep Maryville on its heels, while Trudgian picked up a team-high four ground balls.
