COLORADO SPRINGS - The Adams State University baseball team (1-21, 1-7 RMAC) are finally in the win column after defeating the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (12-12, 6-6 RMAC) in game four of a weekend series on the road. After losing the first three games on Friday and Saturday, the Grizzlies won its very first of the season today by a final score of 12-6.

In game one, the deficit grew to eight runs after only three innings.
Ryne Niemi would hit a homerun in the top of the fourth to get ASU on the board. The success was short lived however as the Mountain Lions scored another seven unanswered runs on their way to a 15-3 win.

Adams State got off to a good start in game two with
Dakota Solis scoring as a result of a fielder's choice.
Patrick Huffaker and
Nico Nintze then reached after a
Tyson Zanski triple in the second to increase the lead to 3-0. UCCS would answer with five runs through the fifth inning.
Erik Hildebrandt would single in
Tyler Erzen in the top of the sixth to bring it within one. The Mountain Lions would answer in the bottom of the sixth for the eventual 6-4 win.

Game three did not go well for the Grizzlies as they found themselves down 0-11 by the final inning.
Brett Aker,
Tyler Erzen, and
Erik Hildebrandt would all score in the top of the seventh but it would not be enough as the game ended 11-3 in favor of the home team.

Game four is the game that the Grizzlies have been waiting for all season. The Grizzlies came out hot with three runs in the first, one in the second, one in the third, five in the fourth, one in the eighth, and one in the ninth. UCCS did post a valiant five run comeback in the bottom of the seventh but it would not be enough to stop the Grizzlies from getting their first win of the year 12-6.

Several Grizzlies had a big weekend in Springs.
Ryne Niemi and
Tyson Zanski both had two RBI's, five hits, and two runs scored.
Dustin Kachel also had a great weekend with four RBI's, four hits, and three runs scored.
David Maldonado becomes Adams State's lone winning pitcher on the season after allowing seven hits and four runs in 6.2 innings pitched against 30 batters. Â Â
