DURANGO, Colo.- The Adams State University men's basketball team (17-13, 14-8 RMAC) faced one of the toughest road tests they could possibly face tonight in a 74-87 loss to No. 25 Fort Lewis in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament semifinals. The Skyhawks are nearly impossible to beat in Durango, compiling a 46-1 home record over the past three seasons.
Â
The Grizzlies would control the first 10 minutes of the first half. Fort Lewis did not see its first lead until the 10:50 mark. The teams would then trade the lead for several minutes until a
Brandon Sly three pointer pushed it back to a seven point advantage for ASU. Adams would take a three point lead to the locker room at the half.
Â
An early 12-5 run in the second half created some distance as the Skyhawks took a 12 point lead. The Grizzlies would never get closer than eight from that point and the clock ran dry. Fort Lewis will meet Regis for the RMAC Tournament Championship. The Skyhawks lost in the tournament championship game last season while Regis finished fourth in the standings.
Â
Brandon Sly led either team with 25 points.
Shane Johnson had a very good overall game with 17 points, eight rebounds, five assists, and three steals. The Skyhawks had five players reach double-digits in scoring, spearheaded by Rasmus Bach's 20 points and seven rebounds.
Â
The Grizzlies finish the year 17-13 on the season, its best finish since the 2014-15 season when the team finished 19-9 and also fell in the RMAC semifinals. Â Â
