Lakewood, CO. - The Adams State University baseball team (1-29, 1-15 RMAC) could not take a game from Colorado Christian (13-13, 8-8 RMAC) this weekend on the road, losing all four games of a Friday and Saturday pair of double headers. Due to Easter, all four games were wedged into a two day period. Games one through three were tightly contested, but the Cougars blew the fourth wide open with a 15-3 win.
Â
Game one went slowly for a majority of the game.
Ryne Niemi hit into a fielder's choice allowing
Dustin Kachel to reach home before an error allowed Tyson Zanski to tie the game 2-2 in the top of the sixth. Both scores were unearned. CCU would explode for five runs in the bottom of the sixth and seventh to take an easy 7-2 win in seven innings.
Â
Game two was a nail-biter to the end.
Dakota Solis blasted a triple which ran in
Patrick Huffaker and
Ryne Niemi after an error at third base to make the game 3-1 in favor of Adams in the top of the second. That score would be tied in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings. In the bottom of the ninth, Joel Manzano would nail the walk-off homerun for a Cougars 4-3 win.
Â
The Grizzlies jumped out to a solid lead in game three after an
Orlando Romer homer in the top of the third put ASU up 5-2. Colorado Christian would answer with five unanswered runs through the ninth inning however to regain the lead. Tyson Zanski singled through the right side for a run in the top of the ninth, but it would not be enough as the home team won 7-6.
Â
In game four, the Cougars made a statement. The home team got out to a 9-0 lead through only two innings. Adams would score in the third and sixth, but it would be nowhere near enough in a 3-15 loss to close out the series.
Â
Despite the sweep, several Grizzlies had a successful weekend.
Ryne Niemi had two RBI's, five hits, and two runs. Tyson Zanski added another two RBI's, five hits, and one run scored. The key player was Dakota Solis with five RBI's, four hits, and three runs.
Â
The Grizzlies will now take on CSU-Pueblo on Tuesday at 3:00PM. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
