GOLDEN, Colo. – Adams State University softball team suffered a two game defeat today to Colorado School of Mines, dropping game one 2-5 and game two 3-4. This is the first team Adams has faced since taking on No.1-ranked Colorado Mesa at the beginning of March that the team did not at least split the conference series. The team will look to rally back as they take on the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs next week at home.
Â
The Grizzlies took the team twice in game one, but a three-run shot in the fourth split the game open and kept the Grizzlies caged. The second game was similar, as Adams scored a run in the second, third and fourth innings to hold the lead halfway through the game, but two runs scored in the fifth on bases loaded situations to tie the game up. A walk off double in the seventh put the dagger in the game, sending the Grizzlies packing winless in the final day of competition.
Â
Angel Micciulli had a decent day, leading the team with four hits in seven at bats. She scored one run and had one RBI today. Brittany Phillips had two hits in four at bats in game one, while
April Riggins had the game stat line in game two.
Â
Game one was a tough one, as three of the runs scored were unearned, all coming from the home run in the fifth. It was a tough series, as seven of the 19 scored runs for the opponents came by way of errors. Â
