SB | Grizzlies Split Series with Mountain Lions in Day One

ALAMOSA – The Adams State University softball team (10-12 RMAC, 13-23 overall) split their doubleheader match-up against University of Colorado – Colorado Springs (8-17 RMAC, 13-24 overall) this Saturday.

The afternoon began with an exhilarating first game as Junior Taylor Hays sealed a 2-1 win with a pop fly to right field, leading to an error and Grizzly triumph. In addition, pitcher Kacee Schroeder assisted to the ASU victory in not allowing a single earned run the entire match.

Despite an early lead by the Mountain Lions, the Grizzlies rallied behind an impressive single by Sheridan VanHoose, allowing Brittany Phillips to score in the fifth inning. The remainder of the game went scoreless until Rebecca Woods was able to score in the bottom of the eighth with Hays' walk-off hit. Adams State tallied eight total hits with only two errors throughout the match-up.

Stephanie Huff led all players with two hits while VanHoose tallied another RBI. Additionally, Schroeder struck out six batters out of the 32 she faced during the competition.

The second contest of the day took a turn for the worse as UCCS shut out ASU with a final score of 5-0. The Mountain Lions got off to an early lead in the top of the first with two RBI's, and maintained that energy throughout the entire game, scoring two more in the fifth, and a final run in the seventh.

Despite the loss, the Grizzlies managed to tally eight hits with only one error. These hits were evenly distributed with no player recording more than one. Senior pitcher Whitney Fields led the day with three strikeouts allowing only one walk the entire game.

The Grizzlies will take on the Mountain Lions again tomorrow in similar double-header fashion. The first competition will begin at 11:00 AM at the ASU Softball Field.
