BB| CSU-Pueblo And New Mexico Highlands Too Much For Grizzlies

PUEBLO, CO. - The Adams State University baseball team (1-33, 1-19 RMAC) could not take down Colorado State University at Pueblo or New Mexico Highlands this weekend dropping all four games in another difficult weekend.

The Grizzlies opened with the home team Friday afternoon. The ThunderWolves dominated, scoring all of its runs through seven innings and allowing only one hit from ASU. CSUP would go on to win the game 16-0.

The next two games against New Mexico Highlands went much better. In Friday's first meeting a Ryne Niemi double scored Jake Angelopulos for the 1-0 lead. The Cowboys would answer with three in the bottom of the first to go on top. It was all Adams State for the next few innings as they regained a 4-3 lead. That would be the last of a Grizzly comeback however as NMHU scored seven straight to secure an 11-6 win.

Saturday's rematch came right down to the wire. Highlands would take an early 2-0 lead before the Grizzlies scored four runs in the fifth inning to swing the momentum. Tyson Zanski increased that margin in the seventh with a double to left center allowing Angelopulos to score. The Cowboys would tie it up in the seventh and then take the lead in the eighth. Neither team would score again and New Mexico Highlands held on for a 6-5 win.

The Sunday rematch with Pueblo was also tough. The ThunderWolves got out to a 4-0 lead after three innings. Adams State would explode for five runs in the fourth to take a one point advantage. Unfortunately, all hope was zapped by the home team's 12 unanswered run stretch through the sixth inning to put it away 16-5.

Jake Angelopulos had a breakout series with two RBI's, five hits, and four runs scored. Tyson Zanski continues to lead the team, adding three RBI's, six hits, and two runs scored. Orlando Romer and Tony Stanich had solid outings as well recording a combined four RBI's, eight hits, and three runs.

The Grizzlies finally return home to host four games against the Colorado School of Mines. The Orediggers are an impressive 20-8 on the year after dismantling seventh ranked Colorado Mesa yesterday by a score of 13-0.
