ALAMOSA – Adams State University men's lacrosse star goalie
Connor Johnson had the best game of his career Sunday, posting a school record 26 saves in the 16-5 loss to No.15-ranked Colorado Mesa. Adams returns to action this Thursday in a neutral site game in Denver against Notre Dame de Namur.
Â
Johnson beat his own school record by four saves, as well as posting the most saves in a game for the team which was set last year in a combined effort against Mesa. He faced 42 shots on goal, as well as 72 total shots.
Â
The game started out well for Adams, trading shots with the top-ranked team in the conference for the first 12 minutes. Mesa would score to make it a 3-2 game going into the second quarter. That final goal in the first was the start of a nine goal run that put the game quickly out of hand, with five unanswered in the second.
Â
Garrett Chitwood would score a goal from behind the midfield line, sparking a run where
Kale Wilson would score less than a minute later from an
Emmitt MacFarlane pass. The final Adams goal would come from
Collin Cranfield in a man-up situation.
Â
MacFarlane was one of the stars of the game, kicking off the scoring with an impressive behind the back goal in the first from
Tanner Beck. Jacob Austin was the other goal that game in the first from
Danny Krieble.
Â
Defensively, Chitwood was the star with four caused turnovers. He was joined by Sawyer Robinson who had a team-high four groundballs.
