ST. GEORGE, Utah – The Adams State volleyball team came up short against Arkansas Fort Smith Friday evening. The Lions defeated the Grizzlies in three straight sets handing them their second consecutive loss of the tournament.

Adams State came out to a quick start, leading Arkansas Fort Smith 7-5 in the first set. A couple Grizzlies' errors along with consecutive kills by Anna Demmer would give the Lions the lead. Adams State would not recover and would eventually fall to Arkansas Fort Smith 25-18. Adams State would have just 13 kills to finish the first set. Julianna Zamora led the team with five kills.

The Grizzlies would show fight in set three following a defeat in set two 25-15. Adams State came out firing with an early 12-6 lead over Arkansas Fort Smith. The Lions would slowly inch their way back, tying the Grizzlies at 23. The teams would trade scores until an attack error by Atira Jells, giving the Lions the 27-25 victory over the Grizzlies. Adams finished the match with a season high in errors with 28.

The loss drops Adams State to 2-4 for the season. The Grizzlies will have two opportunities to reclaim victory in a double-header on Saturday.
