ALAMOSA, Colo. - The Adams State Women's soccer team has a tough weekend in front of them with games against Colorado Christian University on Friday, Sept. 28th and Colorado School of Mines on Sunday, Sept. 30. The Grizzlies lost their only game last weekend to Fort Lewis, 3-0.
During their matchup with Fort Lewis, the Grizzlies offense was shut out for the first time all season. The Skyhawks capitalized on three corner kicks that led to three header goals. The loss dropped the Grizzlies to 1-2 in conference play and 2-5 overall. The Grizzlies are currently tied for fourth place in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
Despite the shutout, the Grizzlies still remain in the top three in the conference for goals, assists, points, and goals per game. For the Grizzlies, Diana Cerillo and Natalie Wheelock are tied for fourth in the conference in goals with four apiece. Corri Zaiger is fifth in the conference in saves with 40.
Scouting the Cougars:
The Grizzlies will face Colorado Christian University on Friday, Sept. 28 in a conference matchup. The Cougars are 1-3 in conference play this season. Amanda Lopez leads the Cougars in goals with four as well as shots with 18. Stephanie Muchow has two goals of her own with 18 shots total on the season. Sophie Kern also has two goals. Renee De La Torre leads the Cougars in assists with four. Ireland VanDyke has been a solid goalkeeper for the Cougars this season with 38 saves and a 1.43 goals scored against percentage. The Grizzlies and the Cougars will play at 1 p.m. in Lakewood, Colorado on Friday, Sept. 28.
Scouting the Orediggers:
The Orediggers are coming into this weekend with a perfect 4-0 record in conference play. They are 7-1-1 overall. They were ranked third in the country earlier this year. Jennifer Kendall and Nicole LaTourette have combined for six goals on 60 total shots. Shannon Mooney has been the star in the net for the Orediggers this season. Mooney has a conference-leading seven shutouts along with a .33 goals scored against percentage. The Grizzlies and Orediggers will matchup in Golden, Colorado on Sunday, Sept. 30 at 12 p.m.
