MSOC | Grizzlies Drop 3-0 Contest to UCCS

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Adams State University Men's Soccer team dropped a tough contest on the road Friday night as they fell to the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs Mountain Lions, 3-0. With the loss the Grizzlies are now 0-7-2 overall and 0-3-2 in conference play.

The Grizzlies looked to create offensive opportunites throughout the game as they took eight shots overall, but just two came on goal. The Mountain Lions (3-3-2, 2-2-1 RMAC) got on the board first with a goal in the ninth minute. Diego Ferradas got UCCS on the board off a free kick from the left side.

Despite an early goal given up, the Grizzlies defense played strong the rest of the first period to keep the game at 1-0 going into the break. The Mountain Lions got off eight shots in the first 45 minutes while the Grizzlies tabbed one.

Coming out of halftime, Adams State looked to push the narrative offensively as they added seven more shots in the second 45 minutes of action. The Mountain Lions countered in the the 54th minute to push their lead to 2-0. Alex VonHolle extended their lead with a penalty kick goal.

UCCS cushioned its lead with the final goal of the game in the 70th minute. Sam Bonano brought the score to 3-0 with a shot to left of the net from the right side.

Despite the loss, Head Coach Stan Rodrigues sees the lessons his team has and will learn along the way as the year progresses. "As we begin our travel games, this young roster will have to learn many lessons," Coach Rodrigues said. "Tonight against UCCS, youthful anxiety and inexperience led us to make many mistakes. This is a lesson that they will need to absorb and recover from so we can be ready for Sunday."

Ruben Molinar led the Grizzlies in shots with two overall. Dylan Udero and Benji Rogers each had a shot on goal. Goalkeeper Jacob Faircloth had three saves in 74 minutes of action.

Ferradas led UCCS with three shots overall, two shots on goal, and one goal scored. VonHolle had two shots on the night, both on goal and a goal scored. In net, Scott Jensen tallied two saves in 90 minutes of play. As a team, UCCS finished with 13 shots overall and six shots on goal.

The Grizzlies are back in action this Sunday, Sept. 30 in Denver against Regis University. Kickoff against the Rangers is set for 1 p.m.
