DENVER – Despite more than 80 minutes of shutout defense and nine saves from keeper Jacob Faircloth, a Regis goal at the 81-minute mark in the second half was enough to down the Grizzlies, 1-0.
In what has proved to be a theme for the 2018 Adams State Men's Soccer team, stout defense and lockdown goalie play once again was not be enough for a victory. Offensively, the Grizzlies managed eight shots for the game but just two came on goal.
The match was at a stalemate until the 81st minute in the second half where Jacob Faircloth would finally let in a goal after making an astounding nine saves before that. He continues to impress along with the rest of the Adams State defense, that has allowed one goal or less five out of the 10 contests this season.
For the Grizzlies, there is plenty to be optimistic about after they have battled hard and played top RMAC opponents to the wire thus far this season. Games against Regis, South Dakota Mines, Colorado Mines and CSU-Pueblo have all been either one-goal games or ties, and Adams State will have another shot at three of those four teams later on this season hoping for victories the second time around.
The tough loss to Regis drops the Grizzlies to 0-8-2, just past the midway point in the season. They will again travel to Northern Colorado next weekend with games against Metropolitan State-Denver Friday, and Colorado Christian Sunday.
