MSOC | Grizzlies Drop Home Opener

ALAMOSA, Colo. - Despite a furious scoring frenzy to take a 3-2 lead after being down two goals, the Adams State Men's Soccer team was defeated by the UT-Permian Basin Falcons, 4-3 Thursday afternoon. The loss is the Grizzlies' third consecutive to start the season to drop their record to 0-3.

A number of positives came from the loss, as the resilient Grizzly offense managed to claw their way back into the game after surrendering two early goals, and take a 3-2 lead early in the second half, thanks to goals from Andree Salazar, Israel Varela, and Brady Freehill.

After Oscar Canela finally managed to nod the score at three for the Falcons, a penalty kick was awarded to Santi Morales just past the 81-minute mark, where he cashed in the opportunity. The Falcons' fourth goal was just enough as they squeaked past Adams State, 4-3.

Young players such as Benji Rogers, who has proven to by dynamic on the offensive attack for Adams State, as well as keeper Shawn Mckeeken who has been battle tested thus far in the goal, are proving their worth by rising to the occasion and lead the 2018 Grizzlies. Veterans such as Brady Freehill who scored his first goal of the season Thursday, will be heavily relied upon going forward in order to keep their young and talented counterparts in check.

While Thursday resulted in a loss, there is indeed reason for optimism going into Saturday's game against Dallas Baptist University. The game will be played at the ASU Soccer Field at 12 p.m.
