Adams State Posts a Pair of Statement Wins at Tracy Borah Duals

GUNNISON, Colo. - Adams State Wrestling had a solid Saturday morning at the Tracy Borah Duals as the team posted back-to-back to shutout dual wins. The Grizzlies scored 40-plus points in both wins to improve to 3-1 in dual action this season.

Adams State posted a 51-0 win against RMAC opponent San Francisco State to start the day and followed that win up with a 48-0 shutout over Simon Fraser in dual No. 2. For the duals, Adams State scored a combined 99 points.

In the first dual of the day, the Grizzlies managed to put up 51 points thanks in part to six-point victories in six of their 10 match-ups. After winning the 125-pound title the day before in the Western Colorado Open, Jonathan Andreatta got things rolling with a pinfall in 4:19 at 125 pounds to give the Grizzlies a 6-0 lead over the San Francisco State Gators.

Ryan Rochford closed out the first half of the lineup with the third pin for the Grizzlies in 2:18 to carry the momentum over from his first place finish at the Western Colorado Open the day before. Through five matches, it was all Adams State as they led San Francisco State 25-0. Rochford's pin also started a a run as the Grizzlies secured their two wins by way of pinfall.

Koery Windham has the second fastest pin of the dual in the 165-pound bout taking down his opposition in 2:03. Isaac Lopez posted the third straight pin and fifth overall for Adams State at 174 pounds in a time of 3:00 flat.

Match No. 2 of the Tracy Borah Duals only had one difference to it for the Grizzlies compared to the first. The Grizzlies scored three less team points in the second dual as they took down The Clan of Simon Fraser 48-0 to finish the day undefeated.

The same 10 grappplers from the first dual once again stepped on the mat for Adams State. Andreatta started the dual the same way he did in the first one, with a pin. He secured the six points with a pinfall in 4:41 at 125 pounds to start the Grizzlies run with a 6-0 lead.

Huff immediately made it a double figure lead, 10-0, with a 15-2 major decision at 133 pounds. 141 pounder Dylan Udero kept the dual rolling in Adams State's favor with a 16-0 tech fall shutout and through three bouts it was already a 15-0 edge for Adams State.

Hermosillo made it 21-0 after securing six easy points thanks in part to a forfeit by The Clan at 149 pounds. Rochford then posted a 16-4 major decision at 157 pounds to give the Grizzlies another 25-0 lead at the midway point of the dual.

Windham made it 31-0 at 165 pounds with another forfeit win for the Grizzlies. The next two bouts kept things interesting as the Grizzlies won the two matches by a combined three points. Despite the battles, The Clan still was still denied from scoring a single team point.

Lopez held off his opponent in a hard fought 3-2 decision at 174 pounds to stretch Adams State's lead to 34-0. Tyler followed that up with his second overtime sudden victory, this time 10-8, of the day at 184 pounds. It was 37-0 with two bouts left as Adams State had the victory well in hand.

The combination of Gipson and Romero once again secured 11 team points for the Grizzlies to close out the dual. The pair won by way of a tech fall and pin at 197 pound and 285 pounds, respectively, just like they did in the first dual.

Gipson scored a 20-2 tech fall to make it 42-0 and Romero followed him up with a pin in 3:25 to close out the dual at 48-0 and put the Grizzlies record two wins above .500.

Adams State will return to action next Thursday, Jan. 17 for another RMAC dual. The Grizzlies will take on the New Mexico Highlands Cowboys in Las Vegas, N.M. Mat action will get underway at 6 p.m.
