LAS VEGAS, N.M. - Adams State Wrestling put together another solid performance on the mats Thursday evening on the road. The Grizzlies took down the New Mexico Highlands Cowboys, 35-7, to secure their fourth straight dual win.
Adams State (4-1, 3-1 RMAC) and New Mexico Highlands (3-4, 0-4 RMAC) both produced full lineups for the match-up but eight of the 10 bouts when in Adams State favor as they secured the road victory. Of the eight wins, five came by way of major decision.
The Grizzlies got out to a fast start winning the first three matches before the Cowboys manged to score some team points. 125-pounder
Jonathan Andreatta got things going with a 6-0 shutout decision to get the Grizzlies up 3-0.
Darek Huff kept the momentum in the Grizzlies favor with a 13-3 major decision at 133 pounds.
Dylan Udero made it an 11-0 lead with an 11-1 major decision as well at 141 pounds. The Cowboys managed to stop the bleeding temporarily as
Noah Hermosillo fell by way of a 15-2 major decision at 149 pounds.
Following the Cowboys one win, the Grizzlies ripped out four-straight wins to maintain their wire-to-wire lead.
Ryan Rochford started the run in superb fashion with a pin in the first period of the 157-pound weight class. 165-pounder
Koery Windham followed him up scoring a 9-1 major decision to give the Grizzlies a 17-point lead, 21-4.
Adams State made it a 21-point advantage with another major decision.
Isaac Lopez downed his opposition, 10-2, at 174 pounds and with just three bouts left Adams State was in complete control, 25-4.
The fourth straight win and seventh of the night for the Grizzlies came by way of an 8-0 major decision from
William Tyler at 184 pounds. Leading 25-4, the Grizzlies only other loss came at 197 pounds.
Khalil Gipson went the full three periods but came up short in a 3-1 decision.Â
The final bout of the night was a quick one at 285 pounds.
James Romero needed just one period to pin his opponent and secure six points for Adams State. When it was all said and done, Adams State proved to be too much for New Mexico Highlands as they secured a 28-point road win.
The Grizzlies will be back in action next Thursday, Jan. 24. They will play host to the Colorado State-Pueblo Thunderwolves for their final home dual of the season. Mat action is set for a 6 p.m. start inside Plachy Hall Gym.
