CHADRON, Neb. - The Adams State Women's Basketball team looked end its skid on the road Friday evening against Chadron State but came up short in a 10-point loss. The Grizzlies fell 67-57 and now are 1-9 overall and 1-5 in RMAC play.
Adams State played from behind for much of the evening as the Chadron State (2-10, 1-5 RMAC) got major help from its bench to secure the 10-point win at home. The Eagles bench outscored the Grizzlies 42-22 on the night to help them earn their second win of the year.
It was a low scoring affair to start the game as the Grizzlies led 6-2 with just over 5:30 to play in the opening quarter. The Grizzlies four-point edge was their largest of the night but the Eagles kept things close for much of the first half as the two squads went back-and-forth for much of the first half.
The first 10 minutes of play saw both teams tied just two times. Scoring picked up in the final five minutes of the first as CSC held a slim four-point lead, 15-11. The game was tied at 9-all before CSC went on a quick 4-0 run to try and create space.
Ki'asha Harris hit a layup with 14 seconds on the clock to keep Adams State within four.
Like the start of the first quarter, the second was low scoring through the first five minutes of play. A layup from the Eagles wth 8:05 on the clock gave them a 17-11 edge. A few plays later after trading shots a
Lowendie Laporal layup and and-one free throw tied the game at 19-all with 5:34 left in the first half.
The Eagles managed to jump back up by as much as seven in the final five minutes of play before the break but the Grizzlies responded and kept the game within reach. Going into halftime, the Grizzlies trailed by just three, 33-30. The Grizzlies outshot the Eagles 48%-45.2%, but the Eagles bench outscored the Grizzlies 23-8 to help them own the lead.
Both squads put 16 points in the third quarter to keep the action close going into the final frame. The Eagles started the third with a 9-0 rub to grab their largest of the night at 12 points, 42-30. The Grizzlies trailed by double figures with 7:42 to play in the quarter but slowly chipped away at the lead for the remainder to stay within three.

Stephanie Ruiz with 1:05 remaining in the third got Adams State within one, 47-46, but CSC responded and never let them get within one possession through the entirety of the fourth quarter.
An 8-1 run to start the fourth quarter help the Eagles get back up by double digits, 57-47, with 7:02 remaining in the game. Both teams scored 10 more points the rest of the way as the Eagles outscored the Grizzlies 18-11 to hold on for the 67-57 home win.
Brooke Neal was the Grizzlies leading scorer with 12 points on 3-7 shooting while going 5-6 from the free throw line. Ruiz was the only other player with double figures as she put up 11 points on a 5-10 shooting performance off the bench. Laporal was the team's leading rebounder with a game-high seven on the night. For the night, the Grizzlies shot 40.4% on 21-52 made shots, but was just 2-11 from three-point range for 11.1%.
Jessica Harvey led the way for the Eagles with a game-high 20 points on 6-9 shooting. Angelique Gall was not far behind with 17 points as she missed just one shot from the floor, going 7-8. McKenna McClintic and Savannah Weidauer each had six boards to lead the team. The Eagles finished 26-51 shooting for 51% and was 40% from deep on 4-10 shooting.
The Grizzlies will look bounce back tomorrow night as they head to MSU Denver to take on the Roadrunners. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. at the Auraria Event Center.
