Grizzlies Hit the Road

ALAMOSA, Colo. – The Adams State Women's Volleyball team gets back out on the road to take on two more conference teams. The Grizzlies first head to Las Vegas, New Mexico to take on the Cowgirls of New Mexico Highlands. Adams State will then head to Pueblo, Colo. to face the Thunderwolves of CSU-Pueblo.
 
Keeping up with the Grizzlies
Adams State is coming off of a big couple of wins from the weekend. The Grizzlies took down Dixie State last Friday, Oct 4th 3-1. Adams State's huge win came from set deficits of 10, 2, and 5 points. This was Grizzlies first win against the Trailblazers. Adams State also had a big win to push their momentum against Westminster College. The Grizzlies Defeated the Griffins 3-0. Adams State is moving in to their weekend away 5-10 overall and 2-4 in RMAC.
 
Keeping an Eye on the Cowgirls
New Mexico Highlands (1-14, 0-7 RMAC) is coming off two losses against Colorado Christian and Regis University. The Cougars took down the Cowgirls in three tight sets 25-22, 26-24, and 25-20. New Mexico Highlands also played Regis to four close sets. Leading the Cowgirls on their attack are Tiffany Matchett with 287 kills and Cynthia Norris with 227. Assisting the attack are Celina Naranjo with 497 assists and Samantha Sjogren with 325. Defensively New Mexico Highlands is led by Matchett with 357 digs, Elena Rivera with 325, and Taley Ferrari with 63 blocks and Stacy Johnson with 53.
 
The last time out Adams State came out on top, winning 3-2 in Las Vegas New Mexico. The Cowgirls won the first two sets of the match last year, each with a three-point margin. The Grizzlies came back late in the game winning the next three sets to get the victory. Earlier in the season last year, New Mexico Highlands came out on top with another close 2-3 match. Historically, Adams State has 19 wins over New Mexico Highlands and 3 losses.
 
Scouting the Thunderwolves
CSU-Pueblo (6-9, 4-3 RMAC) are moving in to the weekend coming off of a split weekend, falling to Regis University and defeating Colorado Christian. The Thunderwolves played the Rangers in a tight 3-2 match, with Regis coming out on top. Colorado Christian fell to CSU-Pueblo in three quick sets. Brooke Schilling is leading the Thunderwolves on their attack with 156 kills, with Maddy Wisniewski right behind here with 118. Assisting in the attack are Grace Hern and Kelsey Bell with 298 and 224 assists. On the defensive end, Kyle Meltzer is taking charge with 235 digs. Other top defensive players for the Thunderwolves are Jazzy Espinoza with 61 blocks and Diamond'Nique Young with 51.
 
The last time out, the Grizzlies came out victorious 3-1. Adams State and CSU-Pueblo played in four tight sets, but the Grizzlies remained finished on top. These two teams also faced each other twice, with the Grizzlies coming out with the victory each time. Historically, Adams State has 23 wins over CSU-Pueblo and 2 losses.

The Grizzlies will be out on the road again to take on Fort Lewis College Tues. Oct. 15, at 7 p.m. in Durango, Colo.
