Grizzlies Fall To Cougars at Home

Alamosa, Colo. - The Adams State men's soccer team met Colorado Christian at home yesterday for 90 minutes of competitive conference play that resulted in CCU's first win on the season. Adam State's falling puts them at 1-7-1 overall, 1-5-1 RMAC.

The first goal of the matchup came from CCU's freshman midfielder, Ulises Garcia. Garcia fired a shot that struck the back of the net within the first minute of the match, to give the Cougars early pressure over the Grizzlies. Although it was the only goal in the first half, Grizzlies responded well on offense, bombarding Cougar territory with seven shots and five corner kicks. Cougars earned two yellow cards before the 45th minute struck and went into halftime leading 1-0.

Period two kicked off and the Grizzlies wasted no time in penetrating CCU's defense. Eli Rome and Benji Rodgers led the way, firing two shots on goal in the 56th and 58th minute. Nevertheless, CCU's goalkeeper added two saves on the season and the Grizzlies stayed scoreless. Rodgers would have a last second, pressured attempt to score with less than 30 seconds left in the game but sent the ball high over the crossbar. It would be the Cougars who left the ASU Soccer Field with their second win over the Grizzlies in two years.

ASUMS stepped it up in offense this week, having 13 shots with six on goal, compared to CCU's four shots with four on goal. Fouls were plentiful with 19 between the two teams (CCU 11, ASU 8) and two yellow cards shown to both teams throughout the matchup.

The Grizzlies await MSU Denver at home, for a Sunday afternoon matchup kicking off at 1 p.m. on the ASU Soccer Field.
