Grizzlies Fall in Overtime Thriller

Alamosa, Colo. - The Adams State Men's soccer team played a nail-biting, Sunday afternoon matchup against Metro State that would roll into overtime after 90 minutes of competitive RMAC play. It would be the Grizzlies that found the short end of the stick however, falling to the Roadrunners 1-2 in the overtime thriller.

Early pressure was put on the Roadrunner defense as Greysen Gilman delivered a shot attempt in the third minute of the matchup. Adams State kept a heavy offensive presence early in the first half but fell back as the Roadrunners fought their way into Grizzly territory. MSU fired nine shots with three on goal in the first half. Adams State's Jacob Faircloth would collect three saves to keep the game scoreless after 45.

The Grizzlies opened up the second half with the same energy as the first, invading Roadrunner territory to put up three consecutive shots early in the period. MSU would retaliate by putting up two shots on goal then capitalizing on a corner kick to send a shot to the back of Adams State's net, putting the Grizzlies down 0-1 in the 64th minute. The game-clock was winding down, and with less than two minutes to stay in contention, junior forward, Benji Rogers came rushing deep into Roadrunner territory to score on an unassisted heater and knot up the score with a last minute goal. Both teams had final shot attempts in the 88th and 89th minute but came up short, sending the match into a third period.

Both offenses played equally well in the second half, Grizzlies having seven shot attempts to MSU's eight. Both teams played similarly on the defensive end, both goalkeepers having two saves and allowing a single goal. After a brief intermission, the ball came into play and it would only take two minutes for Metro State's Yannick Schad to penetrate the Grizzly defense and score with under eight minutes on the clock.

Both offenses played explosive, Adams State having 12 shots with four on goal accompanied by four corner kicks. MSU had 18 shots with seven on goal and eight corner kicks. Grizzlies outnumbered the Roadrunners in fouls but only had a single yellow card on Metro's two.

The Grizzlies hit the road next weekend to open up week five of conference play in Colorado Springs to face the Mountain Lions.
