Colorado Springs, Colo. - The Adams State Men's soccer team made landing in Colorado Springs for round two of conference play this season in what would end in a Mountain Lion victory at home. The falling brings the Grizzlies to a 1-9-1 record on the season, and a 1-7-1 record in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
The Friday afternoon matchup began on a first half bombardment by the UCCS offense, putting up 17 shots on Adams State's four. Pablo Fernandez and Diego Juarez each had shots on goal, and Jacob Faircloth would snag eight Mountain Lion shots on goal to keep the first half scoreless.
With minimal Grizzly offense in the first half, Adams State's Dylan Udero would come rushing into UCCS territory in the 55th to fire a shot and put the Grizzlies on the board first. Udero, assisted by Raul Magno, would have his second goal on the season, individually leading the Grizzlies. The explosive Mountain Lion offense was held to a single point deficit until the 78th minute when Jack Mills would respond on an assisted goal to knot up the score. UCCS would take over after the goal to strike again in the 81st on a goal from Igor O'Rear. One more Mountain Lion score would put the game away, 1-3.
Both teams played an aggressive match, having ten fouls between the two. UCCS outshot the Grizzlies 33-7 and five corner kicks to Adams State's three. Only a single yellow and red card were shown throughout the matchup, both toward Adams State.
The Grizzlies head further north on Sunday for a 3:00 p.m. matchup against Regis to wrap up week five of conference play.
