Denver, Colo. - The Adams State Men's soccer team visited the Mile High City yesterday to wrap up week five of conference play. The Grizzlies were held to only a single goal on Regis' five and fall to 1-10-1 on the season including a 1-8-1 record within the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
Pressure came in early for the Grizzlies as Jacob Faircloth would rack up three saves within the first four and a half minutes of the matchup. Deep into Adams State territory, the Rangers took control of a corner kick and earned the first goal of the game at 4:45. Raul Magno put up a shot in the 19th but fell short on putting the Grizzlies on the board. It would be Regis that found their way back into Adams State territory late in the 19th minute to respond and add to their lead. The two-point deficit wouldn't last long, as Adams State's Dylan Udero drew a penalty kick to put the Grizzlies on the board late in the first half. Regis responded with a goal in the 35th and a last-minute goal from Anthony Priest to end the half with a three point lead on the visiting Grizzlies.
Regis would come in after halftime and dominate the second half. Adams State would only have a single shot and a corner kick throughout the period and kept on the defensive throughout. The Grizzlies outlasted eleven shots before Regis' Milner Porter drew a penalty kick in the 82nd to score a fifth point for the Rangers. A last minute foul drawn in the 89th would come about too late for the Grizzlies to capitalize and the match ended on Adams State's second falling of the weekend.
Adams State lacked offense in the Sunday afternoon matchup, being out-shot 33-7 on the day. Jacob Faircloth stands at second in the conference for saves per game, adding eight more to his career after Sunday's matchup. Regis earned 12 fouls on Adams State's eight, and drew two yellow cards in the first half. The Grizzlies return home to face Utah foes for Friday and Sunday afternoon matchups for week 6 of conference play.
