Grizzlies and Trailblazers Clash Leads to Fifth Straight Falling For Adams State

Alamosa Colo. – The Adams State Men's soccer team met Dixie State at home this afternoon in a high intensity matchup that would end on another season loss for the Grizzlies. The falling puts the Grizzlies at an overall record of 1-11-1, including a 1-9-1 record within the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.  Today marks the third time the two universities met in ten years, and the first time the Dixie State Men's soccer team set foot on ASU turf. Historically, the Grizzlies hold an 0-2-1 record against the Trailblazers.

The first half of the matchup saw a high-powered Trailblazer offense open up with five shots within the first ten minutes of stepping on Adams State turf.  The Grizzlies would respond with two shots on goal from Abdoulie Danso and Dylan Udero but came up short. It would be Dixie State's Moises Medina to rush into Adams State territory in the 20th and fire a laser that saw the back of the net to put the Trailblazers on the board first. Medina would strike again in the 44th minute to put Dixie State up 2-0 after 45.

After being outshot 11-5 in the first, Adams State looked to make a statement in the second half. The Grizzlies would put up four shots before junior forward, Jarrett Shrum found Benji Rogers in the penalty box to send a heater from twelve yards out. On a single point deficit, the Grizzlies would have another opportunity to score and knot up the score but fell short on a blocked shot from Rogers. The Trailblazers would finally take the Grizzlies out of contention in the 64th on a goal from Idris Alabi, for a final score of 1-3.

The Grizzlies ended the match with 12 shots with four on goal, including two corner kicks after 90 minutes. Both teams played a physical game with 23 total fouls and three yellow cards, two going against Dixie State. Goalkeeper Jacob Faircloth added 10 saves to his career and stands at second in the RMAC in saves-per-game.

Adams State looks to close week six of conference play in a Sunday afternoon matchup against Westminster College, kicking off at 1 p.m.
